Super Mario World, known in Japan as Super Mario World: Super Mario Bros. 4,[a] is a platform video game developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It was released in Japan in 1990, North America in 1991 and Europe and Australia in 1992. The player controls Mario on his quest to save Princess Peach and Dinosaur Land from the series' antagonist Bowser and the Koopalings. The gameplay is similar to that of earlier Super Mario games: players control Mario through a series of levels in which the goal is to reach the goalpost at the end.

Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development developed the game, led by director Takashi Tezuka and producer and series creator Shigeru Miyamoto. It is the first Mario game for the SNES and was designed to make the most of the console's technical features. The development team had more freedom compared to the series installments for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Yoshi was conceptualised during the development of the NES games but was not used until Super Mario World due to hardware limitations.

Super Mario World is often considered one of the best games in the series and is cited as one of the greatest video games ever made. It sold more than twenty million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling SNES game. It also led to an animated television series of the same name. The game has been re-released on multiple occasions: It was part of the 1994 compilation Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World for the SNES and was re-released for the Game Boy Advance as Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 in 2001, on the Virtual Console for the Wii, Wii U, and New Nintendo 3DS consoles, and as part of the Super NES Classic Edition. In 2019, it was released for Nintendo Switch Online as part of the classic games service.

Regreso al Pasado TV 1x19: Super Mario Land

 
En 1989, una consola portátil nació y revolucionó el mercado de plataformas de bolsillo hasta el punto de liderarlo prácticamente en solitario durante casi una década. Hablamos, cómo no, de la Game Boy original, portátil ideada por el recordado Gunpei Yokoi. Mario ya llevaba por entonces varios años como el abanderado de la compañía nipona, y desde el importantísimo papel que jugó el primer Super Mario Bros. durante el lanzamiento de NES en el mercado estadounidense, la gran N consideró esencial que cada nueva plataforma debutante contara con un título de la saga entre sus juegos de lanzamiento.
Sin embargo, Shigeru Miyamoto, creador del personaje y cabeza visible de la franquicia, no podía crear un nuevo Mario para ponerlo bajo el brazo de Game Boy en su nacimiento, ya que se encontraba enfrascado en el desarrollo del futurible Super Mario World de SNES. Así, Hiroshi Yamauchi, presidente de Nintendo, encargó el desarrollo del Mario de GB al mismísimo creador de la portátil, Gunpei Yokoi, quien tomó las riendas como productor y se puso manos a la obra junto al estudio que lideraba, el decano Nintendo Research and Development 1.

Regreso al Pasado TV 1x24: Game Boy

 
 
Game Boy no fue la primera portátil con juegos intercambiables, pero sí la primera en obtener un éxito arrollador. Pese a que la tecnología de finales de los 80 ya permitía la creación de portátiles en color con hardware avanzado cercano al potencial de una consola de 16 bits, Yokoi tenía claro que su apuesta debía ser mucho menos ostentosa. Él quería una máquina lo más pequeña y ligera posible, con unos costes de fabricación que le permitieran salir al mercado a un precio competitivo, y con unos requerimientos de energía que le pudieran hacer gozar de una autonomía considerable con unas pocas baterías. Es decir, quería llevar el concepto de sistema portátil a su máxima expresión. Así, Game Boy contó como procesador con un modesto aunque competente Sharp LR35902 de 8 bits, 8kB de RAM (ampliables a 32), 4 canales de sonido, altavoz mono (que pasaba a estéreo si conectábamos unos auriculares a la máquina), pantalla monocromo de 2’6 pulgadas con una resolución de 160 × 144 pixels, y una paleta de cuatro tonos de gris. La particular tonalidad de la pantalla hacía además que los juegos, en lugar de en blanco y negro, se mostraran en negro y un color cercano al verde oliva.
Se calcula que en total Game Boy vendió la friolera de 118 millones de unidades; eso sí, incluyendo el modelo GBC, que debido a su pantalla en color y su superior hardware era más una sucesora que una nueva revisión de la GB original. Los títulos lanzados para esta histórica plataforma son prácticamente innumerables, como también lo son los juegos destacados, que van desde los dos Mario Land hasta los Wario Land, pasando por Metroid II, Zelda, Megaman (hasta 5 títulos llegaron a ser lanzados en GB), Pato Aventuras, Batman, Asterix, Tortugas Ninja… Envidiable, no hay otra forma de definir el catálogo de software de la portátil de la gran N. A día de hoy es fácil y barato hacerse con una de estas consolas en un sinfín de tonalidades, aunque las ediciones más exclusivas y limitadas son obviamente más difíciles de obtener y caras que el resto. En definitiva, Game Boy es sin ninguna duda la portátil más importante jamás lanzada al mercado, y el mayor legado dejado por el recordado Gunpei Yokoi.

Los videojuegos han recorrido un largo camino desde los días de los botones individuales y las gráficas simples. He aquí algunos momentos memorables de los videojuegos... "Tennis for Two", creado por el Dr. William Higinbotham en 1958, fue la primera experiencia de usuario virtual y sentó un precedente para los juegos venideros. La primera consola de juegos para el hogar: Magnavox Odyssey, fue lanzada en 1972. Los 70's dieron la bienvenida a juegos arcade como "Pong" y "Space Invaders", ambos creados por el gigante estadounidense Atari. Unboxing Mandos iconic de Nintendo Switch

Os mostramos los mandos iconic para Nintendo Switch. Se trata de una alternativa al mando PRO que fabrica la propia Nintendo, que resulta mucho más barata y cuenta con un diseño inspirado en juegos como Zelda Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Bros (Mario, Yoshi y Bowser), Splatoon 2 o el próximo Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. Los mandos iconic se venden en exclusiva en GAME y tienen un precio de 29,95 euros cada uno. 

Lo primero que cabe reseñar es que resultan muy ergonómicos, con una disposición de botones calcada a la del mando PRO (los mandos iconic tienen la licencia oficial) y que no son inalámbricos. Para jugar tendremos que enchufar los mandos a los puertos USB de Nintendo Switch (gracias a un cable Mini USB tipo B, que mide 2,5 metros y está incluido). La otra carencia que hemos notado es que esto mandos no ofrecen vibración HD como los Joy-con. 

Además de un diseño muy muy puntero, con todo el frontal personalizado y la cruceta en color metálico, lo que más nos ha gustado es su comportamiento. Aunque los gatillos tengan menos recorrido que en otros gamepad, la verdad es que se juega estupendamente con ellos, y son la mejor alternativa económica al mando oficial. Inevitablemente nos encanta su valor coleccionista, ya que los 6 modelos disponibles ha atraído todas las miradas de la redacción.
